Recap of this Salsa Weekend…

Jeff’s B-Day

It never ceases to amaze me why, even though, Hobnob’s More Clave is promoted as an early event to kick off the week, most Portland Salsaholics must think we live in the East Coast or something, because most people didnt’ show up until after 10:30pm.

People are you nuts!??  I just don’t get it- don’t you all have to work on Monday mornings?  My recommendation- let’s show up a little early so we can get our fix, support the venues, and go home early enough to sleep- so that when we are not being our Alter-ego, cape-wearing, Super- Salseros we are rested enough to be regular, productive Clark Kent-like, members of society.   (I can’t believe I said that I must be getting old).

Alright getting off my soapbox, and returning to last night, while at the bar a heated debate broke out between, uh-hum Shannon, & a certain someone else-we-won’t-mention-this-guys-age uh-hmm, right in front of my eyes,  about specific hand movement actions of American versus Canadian Curlers- I’ll leave it up to your imagination to decide what kind of hand movements those are and/or what kind of curling was really going on ;-p

Later on, after a couple of shots of Tequila and a toast to the NW’s very own “El Jefe de la Salsa”, the vast majority of guys stood on the sidelines salivating, waiting for the birthday boy’s song to finish; as Jeff took his sweet ‘ol time (no pun intended) dancing with a ringfull of Sultry Portland Salseras  (Oh Yeah!).

  1. I am sure the Portland Salsa community is sleeping much better tonight knowing that Daryle is sporting a tattoo on his noggin. Thanks for pimping my blog, Miko. See you on the dance floor, amigo.

For truly early Sunday salsa, try Cha Cha Cha Milwaukie. It’s a great venue with a nice floor, good food, fabulous margaritas and terrific music. General dancing starts at 7:30 and ENDS at 10:00. That’s early! Check it out at 11008 SE Main St. Milwaukie. For suburbophobes, fear not. It’s quite close to downtown Portland!

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more about coming out a little earlier so we can get to work in the morning. :-)

  4. and the hot dancing was at mississippi street fair latin corner, first with isa cubache and then the closing party with los rumberos del caribe, that was a caribbean street party, dancing till the end and more….look for it next year..it was fun

  5.

what I want to know: how did Jeff get that nickname???? LOL

  6. Depends who you ask you might get answers like:

His name is Jeff. Jeff= Jefe en espanol- no?
“Jefe” can also be used as a term of endearment for the older wiser males.
According to Wikipedia, ” El Jefe is a Spanish term meaning “the Chief” or “the Boss.” Because he’s always commanding all the ladies on the dancefloor this would be his default name ;-)

  7. Hey Aquiles- that’s awesome that both Los Rumberos and Cubache played at the Street Party!! Wish I would have known about it- I could have plugged it! Always feel free to keep me posted on what you guys are up to ;-)

  8. Nay- I’m with ya Sista! Thanks for the support- I dare you to come up with an authentic PdxSalsa/Spicyliving salsa/food recipe- I’ll feature it on the site ;-). Or better yet let’s talk to host an Official PdxSalsa- Spicy living Rolling out party…. Maybe we could also include any other Salsero who has a blog going!

  9. Oh I like that idea. Let’s talk about this some more. Email me!
