Halloween + Salsa + Portland = Scary Ghouly Times!

Wow- it’s just dawning on me that officially  Halloween isn’t until this Sunday yet the chance to wear your outfit begins tonight!  Beginning with Portland Dancesport’s Halloween’s Dance Party at 8:30pm to 10:30pm in the Sellwood area of Portland.  And for only $5 bucks you get a class on Dips and Tricks, some Halloween munchies and also a chance to bust out your brand new skills with some social dancing afterwards.  From there you can take your groove to Santa Fe’s SOS Social to celebrate Catherine Wurdack and Jason Bettle’s Birthdays.

Tomorrow  at Aztec Willies Colombian Nights is yet another venue option where you can wear your outfit and strut your zombie feet to the cumbia/ reggaeton tropical beats!  But because deep down we’re all fanatics about the clave rhythms you might want to revist Aztec on Saturday- not sure any Halloween special’s going on there other than Salsa- but I doubt they’d mind if you showed up in your best scariest outfit to tear it up!

Speaking of costumes, if you feel yours could tops everyone else’s you might want to enter yourself into The Conga Club’s Best Halloween Costume Contest There’s a $200 prize if you win!

Finally you can officially celebrate Halloween on Sunday evening with at least three different options.  Depending on how early you want to get started or perhaps based on whats closer to you, you could begin with either The Ballroom Dance Company’s Halloween Dance Party in Tigard or Cha Cha Cha’s usual Sunday evening Salsa party in Milwaukee.  both of these beginning around 7:30 or so. Cha Cha Cha’s takes the pressure off the Halloween slackers by allowing all with or without a costume to come sweat the night away.

From either one of those venues the final stop is at Hobnob ’s Halloween= Salsa Dance Party off of Belmont and 34th! A couple of great things about this event:  first its an official Salsa Meetup event with George Caceres of Sabor Latino teaching the intro lesson; second it starts early and relatively ends early for those of us who have to get up early in the morning the next day; finally it’s a fundraiser to benefit the Friends of the Nicaraguan Project.  Whatever you do don’t be one of those people who show up late otherwise you’re going to get the stinker look :-P !

  1. actually, the Hobnob’s Halloween Fundraiser starts at 7pm–we’d love for people to come and have a bite before they dance since part of the evening’s proceeds will benefit the Nicaragua Project! And about 8pm, George Caceres of Sabor Latino will be teaching a free lesson. Also, this is a Portland Salsa Meet up event :)

  2. Thanks Ms. Alb@pdx.edu. The inside info has been noted ;-)
